Fellowship Application Information

Requirements

Please see the individual fellowship program descriptions for information about application requirements.

If you are applying for Immigration Status or need a Limited Permit, you must begin the process at least SIX months in advance. To begin a fellowship program at the Hospital, you must have the proper paperwork completed and immigration status determined.

Selection of Fellows

Once all applications have been received and reviewed, you will be notified by mail if a personal interview is required.

Selection of fellows from eligible applicants will be made on the basis of their preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communications skills, and personal qualities such as motivation and integrity. Hospital for Special Surgery does not have a minimum USMLE score requirement or any minimum score requirements.

Licensure and Immigration Requirements

All fellows are required to have a current New York State License and Registration at all times. Information and application for New York State License can be found at the New York State Education Department website.

All fellows are required to maintain appropriate immigration status at all times. Non-US citizens should contact the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates for information on applying for J-1 Visa sponsorship.

Non-US citizens ONLY may work with a Limited Permit to practice medicine in New York State. Information and application for New York State License can be found at the New York State Education Department website.

Please note that the following fellowships require a NY State license in order to rotate to the HSS Ambulatory Surgery Center: Foot & Ankle, Hand & Upper Extremity, Shoulder, Sports Medicine and Regional Anesthesiology & Acute Pain Medicine.
