Brooklyn Product Pedro Beato will get New York Homecoming with Mets on Friday Opener at Citi Field

New York Daily News—New York—April 7, 2011

When the Mets announce their players before the home opener, 24-year-old Pedro Beato will run onto the field, with friends and family in the stands. After the game, the rookie will return to the Ozone Park home he shares with his aunt and sister.

His first encounter with the club came in his junior year at Xaverian High School, when team physician David Altchek performed Beato's Tommy John elbow surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery. The Mets drafted Beato in the 17th round in 2005, and brought him to Shea to meet Pedro Martinez, his idol. He resisted the strong temptation to sign, instead opting to maximize his potential value.
