Carson Smith to Have Tommy John Surgery

The Boston Globe's Peter Abraham reports that the Boston Red Sox's Carson Smith will undergo Tommy John surgery to repair his torn ulnar collateral ligament. According to a team announcement, David W. Altchek, MD, a sports medicine surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery, will perform the surgery. Smith's projected recovery time will be 9-12 months, according to the article.
