Google Knol—July 23, 2008

Gout can be extremely painful and incapacitating but is extremely treatable in almost all patients. It’s important to identify and treat it early to avoid pain and complications.

Rheumatologist Theodore Fields, M.D., FACP, of Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, shares his expertise on the topic of gout as a knol for newly launched Google Knol. Knols are authoritative articles about specific topics, written by people who know about those subjects. Google Knol was launched on July 23, 2008.

Gout is a condition that stems from deposits of uric acid, especially in joints and kidneys. However, recognizing it early and definitively is vital to treating the condition appropriately.
