Hospital for Special Surgery Honors Renowned Scientists and Business Leader

The Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) has touched the lives of many, as evidenced by the enthusiastic turnout of supporters at its 29th Annual Tribute Dinner on June 18th. The event was hosted by NBC News Special Correspondent and host of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, Meredith Vieira, together with special guest Ronnie P. Barnes, Senior Vice President for Medical Services at the New York Giants. The program honored Johnson & Johnson Chairman,William C. Weldon; HSS Associate Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon and Chief Emeritus of Spine Service, Patrick F. O'Leary, MD, FACS; and Rockefeller University President Emeritus,Torsten N. Wiesel, MD, FRS.

HSS Board Co-Chair Dean O'Hare presented the first award to Johnson & Johnson Chairman of the Board of Directors, William C. Weldon, formerly Chief Executive Officer of Johnson & Johnson.

HSS Board Member Dr. Thomas Kelly presented the Distinguished Service Award to Nobel prize-winning scientist, Torsten N. Wiesel, MD, FRS. Dr. Wiesel is President Emeritus of Rockefeller University and a member of the HSS Board of Trustees.

HSS Surgeon-in-Chief and Medical Director, Dr. Thomas Sculco introduced his colleague, Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree Patrick F. O'Leary, MD, FACS. Associate Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon and Chief Emeritus of Spine Service at HSS, Dr. O'Leary has been consistently named a top doctor in New York magazine’s “Best Doctors” issue and in several publications by Castle Connolly.
