Nicks out three weeks with leg injury

New York Daily News—November 22, 2010

Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, who seemed to be on his way to the Pro Bowl this season, is expected to miss at least the next three weeks with an injury to his lower right injury. According to the team, he has “Compartment Syndrome” which apparently was the result of a hit in the Giants’ 27-17 loss in Philadelphia on Sunday night.

Compartment Syndrome is the compression of blood vessels and nerves in an enclosed area. It can lead to bigger problems, such as muscle and nerve damage and blood flow issues, if it’s not treated immediately.

Nicks was sent to Hospital for Special Surgery this afternoon for a fasciotomy - - a procedure where a deep cut is made in the skin to relieve the tension and pressure in the enclosed area.
