Barbara Scorziello, NP
Barbara Scorziello is a board-certified family nurse practitioner at the Hospital for Special Surgery. She started at HSS in 2011 where she was recruited to organize and modernize the anticoagulation program for the postoperative joint replacement patients once discharged from the hospital. Prior to working at HSS, she had 29 years of nursing experience at Montefiore Medical Center New York. Her previous roles included staff nurse, administrative nursing supervisor, home care nurse, long term home care coordinator, and anticoagulation nurse practitioner. At Montefiore, Barbara served as a field trainer for the MISYS laptop computer program for the Home Care Agency during transition from paper to EMR. In May 2019, Barbara transferred to the pain management department at HSS in the Stamford ambulatory care setting where she is the lead team member in the department, assuming some administrative responsibilities. Barbara also is self-employed and performs healthy house calls for major insurance companies in underserved communities.
Barbara has been a nurse practitioner in the field of anticoagulation from 2006 - 2019. She has participated in research projects at Montefiore Medical Center and has two publications related to this area in conjunction with hematologist Henny Billett, MD. Barbara has expertise in the area of VTE prevention and treatment in medical and surgical settings. Barbara has served as co-chairperson of the nurse practitioner council at HSS. Barbara has served as mentor and educator for NP students during clinical rotations.
She has active membership in Sigma Theta Tau, New York State Nurses Association, American Nurses Association, American Nurses Credentialing Center, and The American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Barbara completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Marquette University. She has a Master of Science in Nursing from City University of New York in Nursing Administration and Gerontology. Barbara received her certificate of advanced graduate study as family nurse practitioner from Pace University. She is board certified from the American Nurses Credentialing Center as family nurse practitioner. Barbara holds an RN and NP licensure in good standing in both New York and Connecticut.
Barbara is an avid home beer brewer with her husband, Peter. She enjoys working in her garden and attending local music concerts. Barbara is an active member in the local motorcycle club. She is a regular gym member at Chelsea Piers, CT. Barbara lives with her husband and two dogs, and has two grown daughters, and a grandson.
