Each year, during the Annual Alumni Meeting and graduations, awards are presented to recognize the remarkable accomplishments of our residents, fellows, and HSS Alumni. These include:
+ Charles L. Christian, MD, Award
This award, named for a renowned HSS Physician-in-Chief and Director of Rheumatic Diseases Emeritus, acknowledges a fellow for excellence in musculoskeletal research.
This award recognizes an exemplary alumnus/alumna that has shown leadership, received special recognition in his/her specialty, and actively participates in HSS Alumni Affairs.
+ The Pier Giorgio Marchetti, MD, Award for International Achievement
This award recognizes outstanding lifetime achievement in orthopaedic surgery by an international fellow who trained at HSS.
+ The Lance Peters, MD, Memorial Biomechanics Award
This award was developed by the Office of Alumni Affairs in collaboration with the Residency Class of 1999 to recognize a current or recent HSS trained researcher for an outstanding published paper in biomechanics research.
+ Andrew N. Swanson, MD, Awards (Lectureship and Fellowship)
This award was developed in 2009 to honor the memory of Dr. Swanson. It is awarded to an HSS alumnus who has excelled in spine education, research, practice, or humanitarian efforts.
+ Lewis Clark Wagner, MD, Award
This award recognizes the extraordinary contributions of Lewis Clark Wager, MD, to HSS and the Alumni Association and is presented every year to a resident who demonstrates for excellence in orthopaedic surgery research.
+ Russell F. Warren, MD, Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Basic/Translational Research
This award is presented yearly to a resident who has excelled in orthopaedic basic/translational research and is named in honor of the hospital’s 10th Surgeon-in-Chief.
This award honors the memory of Philip D. Wilson, MD, the hospital’s fifth Surgeon-in-Chief and is presented to a fellow who has demonstrated excellence in orthopaedic surgery research.
