Dermatomyositis is a form of myositis that causes rashes and other problems with the skin and fingernails. People with this condition have skin that is sensitive to sunlight, and they have an elevated risk of getting some forms of cancer and lung disease. Some but not all people with dermatomyositis will get myositis, which affects the muscles.
