NorthJersey.com reports that David Wright is close to returning to the New York Mets after being sidelined by spinal stenosis.
While spinal stenosis has ended athletes’ careers, indications are that Wright should be able to play through it.
"Structurally, if the canal is narrow it stays that way, but more people play with that than actually are unable to play with it unless things get really bad," said Dr. Andrew Sama, orthopedic surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery. "Unless there’s something like a disk herniation or the vertebrae slip out of position or cause more narrowing, then that might limit someone’s ability to play."
