Dean R. O‘Hare, former Chair and CEO of The Chubb Corporation has been named Co-Chairman of the Hospital for Special Surgery‘s (HSS) Board of Trustees. In joining Co-Chair Aldo Papone, Mr. O‘Hare succeeds Richard Menschel, who had been Chairman since 1992. Mr. Menschel will become Chairman Emeritus of the Board.

A leading voice of the business community on international finance and trade issues, Mr. O‘Hare served as chair and chief executive officer of The Chubb Corporation from 1988 until 2002. Founded in 1882 and based in Warren, NJ, Chubb is one of the world‘s leading property and casualty insurance companies. Mr. O‘Hare began his career with Chubb in 1963 as an underwriting trainee. He was named an officer of the corporation in 1972, chief financial officer in 1981 and president in 1986.
Mr. O‘Hare is a director of Fluor Corporation and HJ Heinz Company, chair of the NJ Partnership, and director and past chair of the American Insurance Association. He also serves as a member of the President‘s Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations, Chair of the U.S. Council for International Business, Chair of the US Coalition of Service Industries and Chairman of the Pacific Basin Economic Council. He is past chair of the U.S.-India Business Council, a member of the Business Roundtable and the Global Business Dialogue on E-commerce, a member of the Board of the U.S.-China Business Council and a financial governor of the World Economic Forum.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, he holds a BS in financial management from New York University and an MBA from Pace University Graduate School of Business Administration.
