The Wall Street Journal reporter Matthew Futterman reports on the upcoming NFL Combine. He speaks with Scott A. Rodeo, MD, sports medicine surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery.
Dr. Rodeo will screen every major joint of every player at the combine and ask them to account for all their missed games and practice time and will discuss any surgical history.
All imaging that he will review is loaded into a database that has 10 years of injury information on prospects and can track player health through their careers. This allows medical teams to determine a likely career track for players, such as a standout college athlete who has arthritis knees.
