As the first female president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, co-founder of the Women's Sports Medicine Center at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in Manhattan, as well as being a member of the medical commission of FISA and vice-president of the National Rowing Foundation's board of trustees, Dr. Jo A. Hannafin, MD, PhD, has often been called a true trailblazer.
In honor of her incredible and ongoing career, she was presented with a lifetime achievement award at HSS's 31st Annual Tribute Dinner in New York City last month.
Dr. Hannafin herself said that she was most honored to receive the award and called the Hospital for Special Surgery an extraordinary institution. "Because of its focus [on musculoskeletal diseases], we are able to provide outstanding patient care, innovative research and educational opportunities for medical students, residents, fellows and orthopaedic surgeons from around the world."
