Hospital for Special Surgery 27th Annual Tribute Dinner

Style 1 Media—September 1, 2010

The Waldorf=Astoria Grand Ballroom was vibrant on June 21st, when the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) held its 27th Annual Tribute Dinner. Guests included medical professionals, celebrities, and notable supporters from business, health, media, sports, the arts, and government. The event, hosted by NBC's Today Show Co-Anchor, Matt Lauer, honored former Xerox Corporation Chairman, Anne M. Mulcahy, and HSS Physician-in-Chief, Emeritus, Dr. Stephen A. Paget, for outstanding professional accomplishments. Celebrities included actresses Meryl Streep (left) and Marlo Thomas; media personality Phil Donahue; NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg; and former NYC Mayor David Dinkins.

The program began with remarks from Toastmaster Matt Lauer, who entertained guests with a lighthearted tribute to his own HSS orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Andrew J. Weiland. Remarks were made by distinguished professionals including: HSS Surgeon-in-Chief, Dr. Thomas P. Sculco; Dinner Chair William R. Salomon, HSS Board Member and Dinner Committee Chair, Patricia G. Warner; and HSS Physician-In-Chief and Rheumatology Chair, Dr. Mary K. (Peggy) Crow. HSS President/CEO Louis A. Shapiro attended the event with his family. A highlight of the program was the dance interlude by featured performer Sterling Masters, a rehabilitated former hip patient who, thanks to treatment at HSS, has been able to return to the dance profession.
