Newsday—September 4, 2017

In an article by Newsday, U.S. professional tennis player Bethanie Mattek-Sands spoke about her recovery after injuring her knee two months ago. According to the article, Mattek-Sands is confident she will return to tennis after having surgery and regular physical therapy.

The article reported that David W. Altchek, MD, sports medicine surgeon at HSS, performed the surgery to repair her ruptured patellar tendon. Mattek-Sands said that she has had good signs at her follow-up visits, and that Dr. Altchek believes she can play tennis again.

"He’s really happy with my recovery and so are my therapists. The first six weeks are the main healing weeks. I couldn’t bend my knee, I couldn’t do much, I was on crutches  and now he’s given me the go-ahead for more mobility, more strength training," she said.
