St. John's Brownlee Treated For Thumb Fracture, Not Expected To Miss Time

Red Storm senior forward injured in second half of victory over Duke.

St. John's Red Storm—Queens, N.Y.—February 1, 2011

Brownlee fractured the distal phalange on his left thumb when he collided with a Duke player in the game on Sunday.

An examination on Monday by the St. John's medical staff called for x-rays, which revealed a non-displaced hairline fracture toward the end of Brownlee's left thumb. He was further examined Monday by hand specialist Michelle Carlson, M.D., of Hospital for Special Surgery, who fitted his thumb with a fiberglass splint, and with the STJ Medical Staff, cleared Brownlee for activity in practices and game competition.
