Dr. Sameer Dixit is a fellowship trained, double board-certified sports medicine specialist who has provided sports medicine care for professional, recreational and potential athletes for over 15 years. He welcomes active patients of all ages to his practice. Dr. Dixit provides prompt evaluation and diagnostic care for his patients for a plethora of musculoskeletal injuries and sports-related conditions.
With a background in primary care, Dr. Dixit looks at the whole patient, utilizing a patient centered approach, keeping in mind the patient’s athletic experiences and ultimate goals with exercise. He embraces his patients’ commitment to excellence and their desire to return to sports. He uses a wide array of non-surgical treatments often with the goal of avoiding surgery, and also provides prompt referral to unparalleled surgical colleagues when appropriate.
Dr. Dixit graduated with honors with a degree in bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania. After attending medical school at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, he completed his internal medicine residency at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. Subsequently, he completed a 2-year sports medicine fellowship at UCLA. He then worked as a team physician at the University of California in Berkeley, culminating in service as the head team physician; at the time, he was one of the youngest head team physicians of a major collegiate program in the country. Prior to being recruited to join the esteemed primary care sports medicine faculty at HSS, Dr. Dixit worked at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. He served as assistant professor in the Departments of Orthopedics, Medicine and PM&R for 10 years. During this time, he was instrumental in the development of the primary care sports medicine program at the storied institution.
Dr. Dixit has vast experience providing sports medicine care for athletes in a multitude of sports at all levels of care including high school, collegiate, professional and international athletes. His previous extensive sports team coverage experiences include UCLA, the University of California, Johns Hopkins Athletics (where he served as medical director) and the Baltimore Orioles. He was a former team physician for the New York Knicks and is currently a team physician for USA Lacrosse.
Along with patient care, Dr. Dixit has a passion for the education of future sports medicine physicians and serves as program director for the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at HSS. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for the Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine and as a reviewer for multiple sports medicine journals. He has authored numerous scientific publications in the field of sports medicine and has lectured nationally on various sports medicine topics. Dr. Dixit has advocated for exercise and physical activity with members of the US Congress on numerous occasions.
He is an active member of the American College of Physicians, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine.
In his free time, Dr. Dixit enjoys being active and trying to keep up with his two young children and wife.

My office is located at The Pavilion, 541 East 71st Street. The main entrance to The Pavilion is on the north side of 71st Street underneath the sky bridge that connects the main hospital to the Belaire Building.
