Ticker Report—November 4, 2014
Three medical investigators are the 2014 recipients of prestigious career awards that recognize their important achievements in research on the autoimmune disease lupus. Dr. Jane E. Salmon of Hospital for Special Surgery in New York will receive the Evelyn V. Hess Award.
Dr. Salmon is the Collette Kean Research Professor at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Salmon's research focuses on the causes of tissue injury in patients with lupus. Her studies discovered the reasons for pregnancy loss and organ damage in lupus, identified predictors of risk for lupus-related pregnancy complications, kidney inflammation (nephritis), and cardiovascular disease, and pioneered new targets to prevent these disorders.
The awards will be presented on November 17 in Boston at a ceremony coinciding with the American College of Rheumatology’s 2014 Annual Scientific Meeting.
