Pain-Train: A Translational Pain Research Training Program

Supporting trainees and amplifying impact through a multidisciplinary, translational pain research methodology curriculum

What is Pain-Train?

Pain-Train is a new NIH-funded supplement to support the design and implementation of a structured translational pain research methodology training program for trainees of the Combined Engineering and Orthopedics T32 Training program, as well as others interested in or new to pain research. The orthopedic conditions studied by T32 trainees are known to cause both acute and chronic pain; understanding pain mechanisms and pain measurement can enrich their research and amplify its impact.

The goals of Pain-Train are to:

  • expand the scope of trainees’ learning experience and inspire burgeoning interdisciplinary pain researchers
  • enhance the clinical relevance and impact of trainee’s research projects by incorporating pain measurement
  • afford opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration by linking trainees and their mentors with clinical pain researchers
