Cheryl Conwell, NP

Cheryl Conwell was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Catskill, New York.  She received her BSN at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, New York.  While at Mount Saint Vincent, she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing.  In addition, Cheryl was awarded the VA health professional scholarship and VA Learning Opportunities Residency Program during her junior year.

Following graduation, Cheryl began working in the Manhattan VA operating room, and then, subsequently transferred to the Bronx VA MICU and CCU. While working in the MICU she was approached to take part in a collaborative program to become a nurse practitioner.

Once she graduated, Cheryl began her career as a nurse practitioner in the emergency room and in the department of anesthesia for presurgical screening and pain management.  In 1999, she transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital (New York) and worked for the Department of Anesthesiology in the pain management division where she became a manager in the department.  Prior to leaving for the Hospital for Special Surgery, she was employed by the director of the orthopedic spine team, Sean McCance, MD.  In 2006, Cheryl came to HSS as a nurse practitioner in the anesthesiology department, and currently covers the PACU, OSCU, and SDU. In addition to the anesthesiology department, in 2016 she started working for spine surgeon Dr. Frederico Girardi M.D. per diem. 

Since arriving at HSS in 2011, she obtained her doctor of nursing practice.  Her thesis looked at The Incidence of Atrial Fibrillation in the Orthopedic Patient Population, which was presented at SPAQI in 2013.
