Awareness of patients’ recent or past traumatic experiences is extremely important and relevant to our roles as health care professionals in a medical setting. Any kind of traumatic experience can affect patients in ways that may impact their physical and mental health, medical treatment and overall experience as a patient. Therefore, understanding of the role of trauma in patients’ lives and gaining knowledge of appropriate interventions may enhance patient-provider communication, adherence to treatment, and satisfaction with the health care services received at HSS.
