Dr. Matthew Bertram is a board certified anesthesiologist at HSS. Having completed his residency training at Weill Cornell Medical Center and Hospital for Special Surgery in 2005, he embarked on a career focused on enhancing patient care from his early days as a Clinical Instructor of Anesthesia at Weill Cornell Medical Center to a 14-year tenure at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.
As Director of Regional Anesthesia and Acute Perioperative Pain Management, Dr. Bertram played a pivotal role in establishing the CPMC Fast Track Total Joint Pathway and implementing ambulatory total joint replacement in multiple outpatient centers, revolutionizing orthopedic care for enhanced efficiency and patient convenience. He also served as a Senior Team Leader on the Liver Transplant Team.
After returning to New York City, Dr. Bertram led as Director of Anesthesia for Gramercy Surgery Center in Manhattan and Queens, while simultaneously serving as Vice Chair for Optum Tristate Department of Anesthesiology. His professional interests include advancing anesthesia techniques for total joint replacement in the ambulatory setting and participating in orthopedic medical missions in developing countries.
