Patient Surgeon: S. Robert Rozbruch
Richard is a 43 year old who sustained an ankle fracture after a bad fall. This was repaired by other doctors, and subsequently the hardware failed and he developed a bone infection. This resulted in complete destruction of his ankle joint.
He needed an ankle fusion and treatment of the bone infection (osteomyelitis). We performed this using the Ilizarov method. At one month he was walking.
At 3 months, he was out of the frame and very active. The ankle fusion was healed and the infection was cleared. Despite the ankle fusion, he has good mobility of his foot and he is without pain.
