Dr. Claire D. Eliasberg is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, knee, and shoulder surgery. She is an orthopedic surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery and an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. She also conducts translational research focusing on soft tissue injuries, tendon repair, and orthobiologics.
Dr. Eliasberg completed her undergraduate studies at Yale University, where she studied History of Science, History of Medicine and graduated with distinction. She was also a walk-on to the Division I Varsity Women's Lacrosse team and elected team captain her senior year. She received her medical degree from David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She spent a dedicated research year pursuing translational research in rotator cuff disease with Dr. Frank Petrigliano, and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. She completed her orthopedic surgery residency training at HSS, where she participated in the Step-Out Research Program with Dr. Scott Rodeo. She also completed her fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at HSS. During her training, she served as an assistant team physician for the New York Giants, the New York Liberty, and the New York City Public Schools Athletic League.
Dr. Eliasberg is passionate about helping patients of all ages and athletic levels and believes that research is essential to advancing the field of sports medicine. She has received several grants to support her research, authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and received several research honors. She has given presentations at national and international meetings, is on the Editorial Board for Arthroscopy: The Journal of Arthroscopic & Related Surgery, and serves as a consultant reviewer for several additional journals.
