Dr. Purva Singh joined Hospital for Special Surgery in November 2016. Currently, she is working on two research projects. One study is aimed at understanding the effect of changes in DNA methylation on osteoarthritis progression and identifying functional relationship that lead to changes in differential gene expression. Another research project she handles is focused on investigating contributions of cytokines and adipokines released by adipose tissue surrounding the joint in initiation and progression of osteoarthritis. Using next generation sequencing and other biochemical assays, the overall goal of her research is to identify targets for the treatment of osteoarthritis.
Dr. Singh received her BSc and MSc in Microbiology from Devi Ahilya Vishwa Vidyalaya (D.A.V.V), Indore, India. She earned her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Albany Medical College, Albany, NY. Her doctoral research was focused on understanding role of cell surface receptor (integrins) in cutaneous wound healing. Dr. Singh later joined Princeton University as postdoctoral fellow, where her research was focused on studying the effect of extracellular matrix on stem cell renewal and differentiation with emphasis on differentiation towards chondrogenic lineage.
